DUPONT SAFETYIN DTI

Please keep in mind that our concerns about DTI and DuPont Safety Resources have not changed. If in your daily work routine a supervisor informs you of changes directly or indirectly related to DuPont, please let your Region Director know immediately. If you see or hear of changes in safety policy, no matter how small, let your Director know!

WHAT’S 2009 BRING…. MORE NLRB CHANGES AT DTI

The early days of 2009 don’t appear to be bringing much change to the table at DTI. We have a minimum of three NLRB charges to provide depositions for already.  Who knows though, year’s still young, maybe someone, somewhere, sometime in Dominion will finally see the advantages of sitting down, talking and trying to work through issues and direct Dominion Gas Transmission’s management team to do so.

J.A.R. –SO FAR A POSITIVE

So far the comments from the members involved in the new J.A.R. committee have been positive.  The committee is primary for reviewing safety incidents and discussing how to prevent them in the future.  Our Division I has been participating in the committee for some time. The monthly meetings consist of management personnel and officers, directors and representatives from the Union and employees involved in accidents. You may ask what the difference between this and the DuPont Safety Program at DTI is?  Well, Hope Gas management approached us at the ground level and ask for our participation. They had company safety representatives, as well as operation personnel, meet with the Union Executive Board and describe their concerns, what they wanted to try and achieve and how they wanted to get there. Not so at Dominion Gas Transmission and their DuPont Safety.

PARTIES TO MEET ON HOPE GAS SALE

The Union’s Executive Board, representatives of BBIFNA and Dominion will sit down on January 14th, to discuss concerns of the Union regarding the sale.  We're looking forward to this meeting as an opportunity to resolve some issues as the sale process moves on. BBIFNA continues to meet with us in their efforts to hear our concerns and build a foundation for a good working relationship. We have petition with the WV-PSC to intervene as “neutral” in the filings regarding the sale and rate cases. Keep in mind that we intervened in the process when Equitable was attempting to buy Hope but with a big difference, at that time we intervened in opposition of the process.

UNION AND HOPE GAS WORK ON MENTORING PROGRAM

Right before Christmas the parties met and discussed the possibility of implementing a “mentoring” program in Hope Gas proposed by President Rittenhouse that will allow retirees to work with current employees to mentor them doing their jobs.  “The program as proposed does not permit the retirees to be an “extra set of hands”; we have a workforce for that. It’s a program that will allow current and future employees to draw from the experience and knowledge of the retirees in doing their job duties properly and safely.  We rough drafted our concept of the program to the company, now it’s in their hands for consideration.

UNION AND HOPE GAS TO WORK TOGETHER ON DIVERSITY

The Union and management of Hope Gas agreed to partner a Diversity Committee within Hope Gas. The Union’s Executive Board voted for the partnering after they met with Hope Gas officials and worked out the details. “I think it’s going to provide us with an interesting and exciting opportunity to work together.”, local president Rittenhouse stated. There is no such partnering within Dominion Gas Transmission, Inc.
